I saw Ken play many times and he was a solid, no nonsense defender, as was John Bond around the same time. A belated happy birthday Ken, you are a true gentleman!

Re: Ken Brown senior
One of my personal 'best West Ham goals ever' was scored by Kenny Brown junior, home to Villa under the lights, 28 Aug 1991.
He received it square from Slater, touched it along twice, then hit it from well outside the box, off the outside of his boot, curling it neatly into the far top corner of the goal.
It was special for me and my bro, as we were only standing a few rows back behind the goal, directly in line with the ball coming in - close enough to hear the 'swish' as it went down the netting.
I sensed we were up into celebration mode before it had even settled in the net, but looking back, so were loads of others. A great result, but as it transpired, just about our only win in the first 7 or 8 games, as I recall. Nothing changes!

It makes me cringe now but I was cunting off KB jnr in a cup match at Notts County, and he was sitting directly behind me,my mates pointed it out and I felt like a really embarrassed as I knew he was a well respected player in his time.

Never got the privilege of seeing Ken Brown senior play for us but any player that gets continually talked about in this way (birthdays or not) when mentioned makes me feel gutted i never got too. Some players just ooze what a club is about and Ken certainly does that for West Ham.

Happy Birthday sir!

I remember as an 11 year old going to his house in Cranham - that's where top-division players lived in those days - to get his autograph in my West Ham scrapbook. He went through the whole book signing each picture he was in. A lovely, friendly man. (Peter Brabrook did the same thing).

Happy birthday Ken
The amount of heading he done proves that it isn't dangerous heading a ball.

I always thought that he should of been considered for the manager job when Lyall left. He did a solid job at Norwich on a tight budget under their tight arse chairman Robert Chase.

Not that I disliked Macari but it all got messy after his legacy at Swindon.

Great to hear that Ken's still going strong. Watched him many times and a pillar of the team that got me hooked on WHU.

Happy Birthday Ken.

Happy birthday to one of my childhood heroes.

Made my day when Ken and John Bond presented me with a couple of medals at the Ilford Palais and I still have them.

Re: Ken Brown senior
He left the club in 1967 and it took Greenwood and Lyall 11 years to find a good replacement for him when Alvin Martin made his debut in 1978. All the CBs in between were pretty shit.

Went to an evening with Dicksy and Frankie Mac a few years back and Ken Brown Snr was there and had a chat with him and suddenly realised a few minutes later a line of autograph hunters had appeared behind me so I had to cut this chat short, but I could have listened to him all night. A genuinely lovely man with a wonderful wit and sincerity. Happy birthday to the fella.

Great defender for us. I seem to recall seeing him scoring from a corner with his head. The special bit was him nutting it from the edge of the box.
